Understanding purchase costs
The deposit is only part of the cash you will need when you buy. Planning for the full amount avoids surprises at transfer.
Cash at purchase
This is your deposit plus one-off costs such as the property transfer fee, mortgage registration, bank arrangement fee, valuation, trustee fees and any agency commission.
Costs over the mortgage term
Interest, property insurance and any life cover required by the lender are paid over the life of the mortgage, not at purchase.
Check current figures
Fees are set by government authorities, banks and service providers and can change. Our calculator lets you edit each assumption so you can model the figures you are quoted.
